Midsummer Whisper 112

Extra Story 7 (Part 2)

She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder, pouting, “It’s all your fault, I’m so tired…”

Pei Chen smiled, his voice soothing as he comforted her, “Sorry, Zhizhi, but you can only blame yourself for wrapping yourself up and delivering yourself to my door last night.”

“…”

Thinking back now, Liang Zhiyi regretted it deeply. She should never have had the impulsive idea to buy that outfit—hadn’t she just walked into the lion’s den?

And lately, with him spending more time working out, he had surpassed his previous stamina, lasting even longer last night. She was really finding it harder to keep up, much to her dismay.

She pulled the blanket tightly around herself, refusing to respond to him. Pei Chen kissed her on the cheek and whispered, “Sleep a little longer. I’ll get up first.”

She closed her eyes, trying to steal a few more minutes of rest. But since today was the day of the important promotional event, she eventually forced herself out of bed.

As she got up, she noticed the torn camisole dress on the floor, and the memory of his fierce and domineering behavior last night made her blush deeply.

How could someone be so cool and refined in public, yet transform so completely at night? And him… QwQ.

Pei Chen was tasked with cleaning up the room. After freshening up and getting dressed, Liang Zhiyi joined him for breakfast in the apartment before they set off together for the company.

That morning at the office, everyone finalized the details for the promotional event. After lunch, the employees responsible for planning and organizing the event headed out to the venue to begin preparations.

By evening, Pei Chen drove Liang Zhiyi out of the city and eventually arrived at a classical manor on the outskirts of Lincheng.

The manor exuded an old European charm, sprawling and grand, with a blend of vintage luxury. As their car drove along the tree-lined road beside the artificial lake, the twilight deepened, and the lights of the castle-like buildings began to flicker on, casting a serene and romantic glow over the area.

“This place is absolutely stunning,” Liang Zhiyi exclaimed as she gazed around in awe.

Pei Chen’s eyes softened with a smile. “Do you like it?”

“Yes,” she replied, her dimples showing. “It feels like a princess returning to her castle.”

Pei Chen had chosen this manor as the venue for the promotional event and decided that it would also serve as a team-building exercise, inviting everyone from the company to participate.

After parking the car, they both stepped out. Pei Chen took her hand as they walked into one of the buildings. They passed through a long corridor and arrived at a large lawn in the back garden.

The promotional event was set up outdoors. A stage had been erected on the lawn, with a massive LED screen as the backdrop. Rows of chairs, adorned with white silk bows, were arranged before the stage. The venue was beautifully decorated with lights and flower petals, giving the entire setting the feel of an upscale private gala amidst the elegant manor.

The staff were diligently preparing, and guests began arriving, presenting their invitations at the entrance. The media was also in place, setting up cameras in the back to capture the evening’s grand event.

As Pei Chen and Liang Zhiyi walked forward, employees greeted them warmly, their faces lighting up with extra sweetness when they looked at Liang Zhiyi.

At the front of the stage, the designers from the R&D team were making final adjustments to the robots. Xuan Xia, Liang Tongzhou, and others were also present.

Nearby, Ji Fei’er was directing the staff. Noticing Liang Zhiyi’s burgundy dress, she smiled with approval, “Not bad at all. You look particularly stunning tonight.”

Liang Zhiyi smiled back, “How’s everything going? Do you need any help?”

“No need, we’re almost done. The event starts in half an hour. I’m a bit nervous.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll pull this off smoothly.”

Ji Fei’er grinned, “I think so too.”

A little while later, a designer approached Liang Zhiyi, speaking quietly, “Ms. Liang, we’ve got an interactive segment planned with the robots tonight. Just follow the script we rehearsed earlier. When the host gives the cue, you’ll go on stage…”

As the person interacting with the robots during the demonstration, Liang Zhiyi had already gone through the rehearsal. “Don’t worry, I’ve got it covered.”

Soon, it was 7:30 PM, and the promotional event officially began.

Pei Chen and Liang Zhiyi took their seats in the front row as the lights on the lawn illuminated the manor like a field of gentle stars.

When she turned to look at Pei Chen, she found him already watching her, his gaze filled with affection. She smiled, her heart brimming with anticipation.

A host, dressed in an elegant evening gown, took the stage, bowed gracefully, and began with a warm smile:

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight’s special event…”

“Ladies and gentlemen, good evening. Welcome to the promotional event for Chengzhi Innovation’s first-generation Yun’an Smart Home Robot. First, let’s welcome…”

The venue lit up with continuous flashes from cameras, with the live broadcast streaming online in real time. Among the attendees were prominent figures from the business, social media, and technology sectors—a gathering of influential personalities.

After introducing the distinguished guests, the host continued, “Now, let’s invite the President of Chengzhi Innovation to the stage for the opening remarks.”

Amidst applause, the spotlight shone on Pei Chen as he ascended the stage. He wore a perfectly tailored suit, his dark hair and sharp features exuding an air of elegance and authority.

Now a leader in the industry, Pei Chen was admired by many, a shining example of success and excellence.

As he spoke, explaining the inspiration and vision behind the design of the Yun’an robot, his commanding presence was palpable. In the audience, Liang Zhiyi looked up at him, their eyes meeting. Her gaze was filled with admiration and pride.

How could her boyfriend be so incredibly handsome, she mused with a smile.

Pei Chen continued to speak confidently about the Yun’an robot’s concept and goals, his charisma evident to all present.

Finally, he concluded, “Thank you all for your continued support of Chengzhi Innovation. We strive to grow and improve, bringing you more exciting innovations in the future. Thank you.”

The room erupted in applause as he finished speaking. Pei Chen stepped down from the stage and returned to his seat.

Next, the host introduced the Yun’an robot’s designers, who took the stage alongside the robot itself to begin the product demonstration.

A few minutes later, an employee quietly approached Pei Chen in the front row. “President Pei, there’s an issue that needs your attention.”

Pei Chen nodded, informed Liang Zhiyi, and then stood up to address the matter. Shortly after, the designer finished the initial presentation, and the host announced, “Now, let’s welcome the Vice President of Chengzhi Innovation to the stage to assist our designer in further demonstrating the robot’s capabilities.”

Applause followed as Liang Zhiyi stepped onto the stage. Facing the sea of guests, she offered a warm smile and greeted everyone.

“Now, we’ll have Ms. Liang simulate various everyday activities at home, with the robot assisting her. The robot’s display will be projected onto the large LED screen for everyone to see.”

Following the cues, Liang Zhiyi interacted with the robot, asking it to perform various tasks.

The final demonstration involved the robot guiding her as if she were visually impaired. The robot moved to her side and began to lead her along a designated path.

Everything had been going smoothly, but then, a few steps in, the robot suddenly stopped moving.

Puzzled, Liang Zhiyi tried to check what was wrong, tapping on the robot’s screen, but it seemed frozen, completely unresponsive. A murmur of concerned whispers spread through the audience. Liang Zhiyi couldn’t believe that such a critical malfunction could happen during this important event. She instinctively looked toward the audience, but Pei Chen had not yet returned.

Just as she was about to call the designer over to check the robot, the screen on the robot suddenly glitched. A flurry of garbled code appeared, which was projected onto the massive LED screen for all to see.

Panic surged within her—how could this happen at such a crucial moment?

She quickly addressed the audience, trying to maintain composure. “I’m sorry, everyone. Please remain calm. We’ll have the designers…”

Before she could finish, the situation on stage began to escalate, the garbled code spreading across the screen in an increasingly erratic manner.

She was just about to call for help, panic setting in, when suddenly, the garbled text on the electronic screen vanished.

A few seconds later, tiny pixelated dots began to light up, like stars in a vast universe.

Liang Zhiyi’s mind went blank. As more and more pixels lit up in a steady pattern, she suddenly realized that this was no longer just random code—

A dynamic, colorful image began to take shape.

In the image, raindrops fell gently as a girl in a blue dress walked forward, holding an umbrella.

Next to it, a sentence appeared:

“This was the first time I saw Liang Zhiyi. She seemed to have walked out of a dream, and I bumped into her while carrying my books. I panicked, afraid of dirtying her beautiful dress.”

Liang Zhiyi stared at the LED screen, frozen in place.

The image faded away, only for a second one to slowly emerge. It depicted a classroom, where the girl sat at a desk, with bright sunlight streaming in from the window.

Beside it was written: “When I arrived at school, Liang Zhiyi sat next to me. She often lay on her desk, smiling at me. I didn’t want to look at her, because every time our eyes met, my heart would start racing uncontrollably.”

The third image showed her during military training, standing under the blazing sun, her ponytail fluttering in the wind, looking strong and spirited.

Next to it was written: “During military training, she was the most beautiful girl in camouflage among all the others. I couldn’t help but watch her. Later, she kept asking for my contact information, smiling like a little fox. Rationally, I tried to keep my distance, but in the end, I couldn’t refuse. That night was the first time I lost sleep because of her.”

The fourth image was in the equipment room, where the girl held onto his sleeve, confessing to him with a bright, bold smile.

Next to it was written: “The day I told her I didn’t like her was the first time I realized how hard it was to lie. But I couldn’t face my feelings because I thought I wasn’t good enough for her.”

The fifth image was by the seaside, where the girl held a starfish, her soft hair blowing in the sea breeze.

Next to it was written: “At that time, my heart was in turmoil, but when I held her hand, and she smiled at me, I knew that I had completely fallen for her, with no way out.”

The sixth image was by the basketball court, where the girl waved a cheer stick, her eyes solely focused on him.

Next to it was written: “Liang Zhiyi said she would always be by my side. I knew that no matter what happened, she would be there. Suddenly, I realized she was more important to me than basketball.”

One image after another continued to appear, showing her smiling warmly in a noodle shop, standing on tiptoe to kiss him at the subway station, working hard at a part-time job while studying out of town, the fireworks on New Year’s Eve with her appearing behind him, and the two of them embracing as she firmly told him she had always loved him…

These were all moments painstakingly captured by Pei Chen, coded over countless days and nights.

Like a movie replaying, these scenes unfolded before Liang Zhiyi’s eyes, and as she watched, her eyes began to brim with tears.

All the heartache and bitterness she endured in chasing after him, she had thought were just her own chaotic struggles. Little did she know that long before, she had already been deeply etched in his memory, in a love far deeper than she could have imagined.

Finally, the electronic screen transformed into a single sentence—

“Marry me.”

These words reformed from countless tiny pixels, creating an image of a vast garden of gardenias, as vibrant and endless as a sea of stars.

Liang Zhiyi heard movement beside her and turned to see Pei Chen walking slowly toward the stage, holding a large bouquet of roses. His figure was tall and elegant, his expression soft and gentle.

The cameras around the venue went wild, flashes illuminating the scene.

All eyes were on them.

As her mind went blank, Pei Chen reached her and handed her the bouquet of roses.

Then she saw him open a small compartment in the robot’s chest. After a few seconds, he pulled out a black velvet jewelry box, lifting his gaze to meet hers with a smile:

“Found it. The reason the robot malfunctioned earlier was because of this.”

She stared at the box held before her, momentarily stunned, as Pei Chen’s gentle voice filled the space:

“Zhizhi, tonight’s most important purpose isn’t the product launch. The most important thing for me is something I’ve been planning for a long time—asking you to marry me.”

Her heart pounded wildly.

“Zhiyi, it’s been almost ten years since I met you back in our second year of high school. Before knowing you, I never imagined that I could love someone this deeply. It turns out love is something that reason can’t control.”

“From the moment you appeared, you stood out from all the other girls. You were radiant and captivating, and when you smiled at me, it was sweet and warm. I couldn’t help but be drawn to you, falling for you uncontrollably. At first, because of my family and my health, I felt unworthy of standing by your side. I hesitated and tried to give up, but later I realized nothing could hurt more than losing you.”

Pei Chen gazed at her, his eyes filled with tender affection:

“Zhizhi, you taught me that love requires courage and perseverance. I’m so grateful that I finally chose to be with you, because I can’t imagine what my life would be like today without you in my world.”

Hearing this, tears welled up in her eyes as he continued in a soft voice, “I’ve envisioned many different ways to propose. I don’t know what kind of proposal girls like, but today, I want to be bold.”

“Just like you once confessed your feelings for me in front of the entire class, today, I want to tell the whole world—Pei Chen’s one and only true love in this life is Liang Zhiyi.”

No matter the passage of time or distance, his love remained unwavering and unchanged.

Pei Chen opened the velvet box, revealing a sparkling diamond ring inside.

He took out the ring, knelt on one knee, and looked up at her, his eyes full of love:

“Zhizhi, you said you would always be by my side. Now, I want to ask—will you marry me? Let me protect you and cherish you for the rest of our lives?”

No matter how high the mountains or how difficult the journey, he wanted nothing more than to grow old with her, to remain faithful and devoted forever.

“Say yes! Say yes!”

Cheers erupted from the crowd below. Liang Zhiyi glanced down and saw many familiar faces: Liang Tianming, Zhong Xinrou, Pei Yongxia, Gong Qinxin, Zhi Mian, Fan Gao, and many other employees from the company. All of them had been invited to witness this special moment.

It became clear to her that everything had been meticulously planned by him in advance.

Under the bright lights and focused cameras, she and Pei Chen stood at the center of attention.

With tears of joy welling in her eyes, she looked at the man she had loved so deeply for ten years. Her lips curved into a smile, and as a tear slipped down her cheek, she finally spoke the words that had played in her mind countless times, affirming her decision:

“Pei Chen, I will.”

From the moment she first fell for him, to slowly, deeply falling in love, she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

Marrying him and spending a lifetime together—that was her greatest wish.

As Pei Chen gently slid the ring onto her finger, a sea of colorful balloons rose behind the LED screen, and fireworks exploded overhead, painting the sky with vibrant colors.

For a moment, her vision was filled with brilliant light.

Pei Chen stood up and pulled her into his embrace. Just before his lips met hers, his deep, raspy voice whispered in her ear, clear even amidst the fireworks:

“Zhizhi, I love you.”

Unwavering.

Till death do us part.

He wanted to give her all the love he had.

In the story of his life, there were only two words written: Liang Zhiyi.

Translator: Give me a moment, I am drowning in tears right now.
