When it comes to snowfields, the Ruan family is anything but afraid.
In fact, ice and snow are practically their home ground, especially for those like Ruan Linzhan and Ruan Xiao, who have awakened innate abilities.
But this time, it wasn’t them heading out; they were accompanied by the relatively defenseless Ruan Shu.
“Let’s discuss this tomorrow. We need some time to think it over.”
Ruan Shu nodded obediently, and once back in her room, she began researching Edelweiss.
Edelweiss is a type of mutated plant that travels in groups and can easily form whirlwinds when gathered.
Whirlwinds in snowfields are terrifying, which is one of the reasons why Edelweiss is so difficult to capture.
Moreover, the Edelweiss is pure white and blends seamlessly with the snowy landscape, making it nearly impossible to spot without a keen eye.
Ruan Shu found some images to help her identify Edelweiss. They resemble dandelions somewhat; their round clusters are white, fluffy, and quite beautiful.
But when their clusters begin to sway, they generate fearsome whirlwinds. The snowfields are their territory, and in areas dense with Edelweiss, even powerful mutated beasts dare not venture lightly.
After all, who would want to experience the sensation of spinning at high speed in a whirling air blender, complete with razor-sharp wind blades?
Ruan Shu rolled around on her bed a couple of times, gently pinching the cap of her pink mushroom friend.
“Edelweiss is actually rather pretty.”
“Chii chii!”
But obviously, Pink Maiden is the prettiest. Shu, you can’t just go around complimenting other mutated plants!
Not to be outdone, her little vine friend demanded attention by switching off Ruan Shu’s screen projection.
No more looking! You already have two—are you planning on getting another one?!
Ruan Shu stroked the two creatures gently. “It’s not that I want one; it’s that my father and the others need it.”
“Chii chii!”
No matter what, you can’t have one!
Ruan Shu smiled. “Alright, alright, I won’t.”
She found herself increasingly able to understand the emotions of mutated plants.
Just one sentence, and these two were practically hopping in protest.
The next day…
After some deliberation, they decided that, for safety, they would search the snowy mountains on the main planet instead. Before they could tell Ruan Shu, however, an unexpected guest arrived at the house.
Ruan He looked at the young emperor strutting around as if he owned the place, feeling an intense urge to roll his eyes.
“Is there something you need, Your Majesty?”
Almer scanned the room, looking disappointed when he didn’t see the little mascot he was expecting, though his expression remained unchanged.
“Is Shu going to search for Edelweiss? I’ll go with her.”
Ruan Xiao: “Your Majesty is occupied with matters of the state day and night; how could we trouble you with this trivial issue?”
Almer: “Thank you, Marshal Ruan, for your concern, but don’t worry. The old folks from Dragon Island are on their way; my absence won’t be an issue.”
The Ruan family: “…”
Who’s actually concerned about you?
But…
“The Elders from Dragon Island are coming?”
Almer nodded, a polite smile on his face. “It’s all thanks to that pot of orchids you have. They’re coming to retrieve it, and I took the opportunity to mention the Li family’s matter.”
Hearing this, the Ruan family could no longer press him to leave.
When Ruan Shu came down the stairs, she was surprised to see Almer.
“Shushu.”
Almer’s golden eyes brightened a bit at the sight of a certain little dumpling.
“Almer, why are you here?”
Her soft, sweet voice made it sound like she was pouting.
“We’ve agreed that we’ll go to Snowfall Star, and I’ll accompany you there.”
The Ruan brothers: “…”
Don’t make it sound like you’re the only one going with her!
Ruan Shu’s eyes sparkled as she looked up at her father and asked excitedly, “Really, Dad? I’ll work hard to bring back lots of Edelweiss!”
Ruan Xiao patted her head.
“Don’t pressure yourself. It’s fine even if you don’t find any. Just think of it as a trip to the snow mountains.”
Ruan Shu tilted her head and rubbed affectionately against his hand.
Thus, for the first time since arriving in this world, Ruan Shu boarded a starship traveling through space.
It was a civilian starship, and they were seated in first class.
The journey from the main planet to Snowfall Star would take a day.
A bit nervous on her first starship trip, Ruan Shu stayed close to her brothers, though her curious eyes roamed everywhere.
Once they reached first class, a flight attendant arrived with a variety of snacks and fruit.
Everything was quickly offered to her.
But faced with three people simultaneously holding out snacks and fruit, Ruan Shu clutched her pink mushroom and shrank back into her seat, her big eyes blinking with slight confusion.
Ruan Fengsi: “Shushu loves dairy; have mine.”
He held out a piece of cake with a rich, creamy scent.
Ruan Xinglan: “She’s not even hungry; why would she need your snack?”
Ruan Xinglan handed his snack to the little one, smiling in a friendly—if slightly mischievous—way.
“Kids love snacks, right? Isn’t that so?”
Ruan Qingran chimed in, “Don’t scare her with that smile; it always looks a bit creepy. Shushu, have some juice to calm down.”
Almer scoffed with a sneer, “Eat the grapes I peeled for you. They won’t taste as good if you wait too long.”
Ruan Shu: “…”
She could handle eating on her own, really.
“You can all put them down; I can feed myself,” she murmured softly, offering her opinion.
But the group seemed determined, each insisting on feeding her personally.
Ruan Shu decided to close her eyes and open her mouth to bite. Whoever’s treat she bit would be the winner!
First bite—grapes! Almer received a round of glares from the others, who, at this moment, disregarded any notions of rank or status. To them, he was simply a rival trying to steal their little sister!
Next bite, a piece of cake from the eldest brother.
She ate slowly, her chubby cheeks looking especially round and soft.
After sipping some juice, she finally declared that she couldn’t eat another bite, holding her pink mushroom protectively in front of her. “No more, no more! If I want to eat, I can do it myself!”
“Chiu!” the little mushroom seemed to protest. No bullying Shushu!
“Shushu, look outside.”
Ruan Shu instinctively looked and was immediately captivated by the view outside.
The starship had already taken off, and its swift speed had broken through the main planet’s atmosphere, now reaching the vastness of space.
She was struck by the boundless universe. Even the desolate, barren stars, floating far away, had their own allure, appearing mesmerizing from this distance.
Seeing the universe directly for the first time, Ruan Shu was completely spellbound.
Pressing against the ultra-clear window, her wide blue eyes sparkled like glass, reflecting the myriad galaxies and making it seem as though the stars were nestled in her gaze.
“That planet with the red nebula is called Yunxia Star,” a deep, slightly lazy voice murmured beside her. Ruan Shu turned slightly and noticed Almer standing there at some point.
“Are there star beasts living there too?” she asked.
Almer chuckled softly. “Of course.”
