At this moment, Ruan Shu was feeling a bit lost, instinctively wanting to seek help from someone close to her.

Ruan Qingran gently pinched her cheek, his touch very light.

“Seven coconuts—how would you like to distribute them? Tell me the answer in your heart,” he encouraged softly.

This time, Ruan Qingran didn’t jump in to help her but guided her step by step instead.

He had majored in medicine during his studies, and had also learned some psychology, so he could easily detect some of Ruan Shu’s personality weaknesses.

She was very obedient, with a soft temperament and a hint of underlying shyness and insecurity.

Ruan Qingran understood this had to do with her upbringing, but he wasn’t worried; he would teach her, little by little, to overcome her insecurities. She was the marshal’s daughter, and with them—her brothers—around, she should be proud and cherished.

Ruan Shu curled her fingers, then, with her brother’s encouragement, she slowly spoke.

“One for each of us four, and the remaining three can go to you, Brother. I only need one.”

Yu Huan crossed his arms. “No way! They’re yours in the first place; if we give you one and keep two ourselves, how could we even face that?”

His words were blunt but without any malice. Although Ruan Shu felt a bit shy, she wasn’t hurt by his remark.

“Then… how about using the remaining three to make desserts?” she asked in her soft, sweet voice, successfully melting the hearts of the three in the room.

Yu Huan pinched her cheek and laughed. “How can you be so adorable? Of course, we can! Really, are you sure you don’t want to be my sister? I’d give you all my pearls and gemstones, take you to rule the seas, and make sure everyone who sees you treats you with utmost respect.”

Ruan Shu hesitated a bit, her soft little voice resolute as she declined.

“No, I already have a brother and a father.”

“Then just call me ‘Brother’ too. Isn’t it the same?”

Ruan Shu snuck a glance at him, mumbling quietly.

“It’s not the same. You’re a wild brother.”

“Pfft—cough, cough…”

Though she spoke softly, the three in the room heard her loud and clear. Yu Sheng burst out laughing.

Even Ruan Qingran’s usually cool demeanor cracked as his mouth lifted into a smile, with a deep warmth glimmering in his usually icy eyes.

Yu Huan was stunned for a couple of seconds before exclaiming, “What do you mean, ‘wild brother’? Where did you even get that idea?”

“And you’re laughing, too,” he muttered to Yu Sheng. “Aren’t you in the same boat as me?”

Yu Sheng: “…”

What did this have to do with him? Ruan Shu hadn’t even mentioned him.

Ruan Shu turned her blushing face and buried it in her brother’s embrace, not expecting her tiny voice to be overheard.

Avoidance might be a bit shameful, but it worked!

In this age, though many people opted for the more convenient and affordable nutrient packs, food continued to be a temptation that never failed to delight the taste buds.

Everyone eventually grows tired of relying solely on nutrient packs—especially carnivorous star beasts, whose love for meat is deeply ingrained in their very nature.

Thus, the culinary culture of this era had developed quite well overall. For nobles, in particular, this was ideal; they didn’t have to prepare anything themselves—they had chefs for that.

With the coconuts in hand, Ruan Qingran got to work and dragged over the two lazier ones to help out. They might not know how to make pastries, but surely they could manage to open coconuts.

Ruan Shu initially wanted to help, but nobody would even let her set her feet on the ground. So, she obediently resigned herself to being the team mascot.

However…

“But isn’t your hand injured, Brother? How are you going to make the desserts?”

Ruan Qingran poured the coconut water into a glass, popped in a straw, and handed it to her.

“Aren’t there two other people here to help?”

The coconut water had a rich, lightly sweet aroma with none of those odd flavors nutrient packs sometimes had; it was like nature’s own drink.

Plus, drinking coconut water helped relieve fatigue, making one feel refreshed with each sip.

Yu Huan walked over with a large coconut, straw in his mouth, and casually pulled out a packet of dried fish from a drawer by the table.

“Eat up!”

He thrust it right in front of Ruan Shu’s face.

Ruan Shu’s eyes crinkled in a smile. “Yu Huan, you should have some too.”

Sitting comfortably on the plush sofa, taking turns between bites of dried fish and sips of coconut water, she felt like she might as well be a lazy little kitten.

By the time Ruan Qingran and the others were finally making the pastries, the sky had already turned completely dark.

Just as Ruan Shu was about to message her father, a friend request notification popped up.

Note: I’m your eldest brother. Accept.

For some reason, the tone of that message seemed a little angry.

Ruan Shu glanced at the darkening sky outside and felt a pang of guilt. It was quite late, and they’d slipped away, leaving her eldest brother behind. It was understandable if he was a bit annoyed.

She clicked “Accept.”

It seemed as though her eldest brother had been waiting on the other end because, the moment she accepted, a video call request immediately came through.

Nervous and feeling a bit guilty, Ruan Shu shakily extended her small paw and pressed “Accept.”

In an instant, her eldest brother’s slightly annoyed but handsome face filled the screen.

“Big Brother…” she murmured, her voice soft and hesitant, like a timid little dumpling.

Ruan Fengsi didn’t waste any words and went straight to the point.

“Where are you?”

Ruan Shu looked up at him with wide, hopeful eyes. “I don’t know exactly. This is my Brother Qingran’s friend’s private island.”

“Send me the location.”

Ruan Shu: “I don’t know how….”

At that moment, Yu Huan, with a face dusted in flour, leaned in close, right in front of the screen.

“Who’s that?”

Ruan Shu tried to push his head away with her small hands, but her soft strength had no effect whatsoever!

“That’s my eldest brother,” she whispered.

Ruan Fengsi’s face darkened even further as he looked at the boy crowding into view.

“Your brother?” Yu Huan glanced from Ruan Shu to the figure on the screen, then muttered, “Funny, Qingran looks more like he could be your real brother.”

Fantastic. This guy had a knack for adding fuel to the fire. Ruan Shu’s heart pounded with fear as she saw her eldest brother’s face grow darker, his eyes blazing with suppressed anger. She quickly covered her face.

“Yu Huan, please stop talking. My eldest brother really is my real brother.”

Hearing her soft and sweet words, Ruan Fengsi’s expression softened ever so slightly—but just barely.

“Address.”

Those two syllables seemed to grind out between clenched teeth.

Ruan Shu, flustered, tugged on Yu Huan’s sleeve. “Yu Huan, what’s the address here?”

“Mermaid Island, Number 13.”

The moment Yu Huan gave the address, Ruan Fengsi got into his hovercar, speeding off without hesitation. It was clear from the urgency in his movements that he was headed straight in their direction.

Recalling her brother’s driving from past experiences, Ruan Shu couldn’t shake the feeling that he was currently driving at breakneck speed.

Her little face crinkled with worry as she tried to calm him down.

“Big Brother, please be careful and drive slower, okay? Shushu isn’t running off anywhere. I’ll stay right here and wait for you to come pick me up.”

Ruan Fengsi, foot still pressing down on the gas, suddenly felt his heart clench at her words, like something was softly tugging at it.

He pressed his lips together. “Got it.”
