Identifying the Reincarnator

At 9 PM, Gu Jiu entered the Gray Mist Space as scheduled.

The player is about to enter the B-level game field: Reincarnation Campus.】

Game Task: Identify the Reincarnator.】

Item: Spatial Destruction Card, 2000 points per card, each player may purchase one.】

The Spatial Destruction Card is an offensive tool. Although it costs 2000 points, it is still within the acceptable range for players. After all, B-level players are not as poor as C-level players.

Gu Jiu currently had 4300 points remaining, more than enough to purchase one annihilation card.

System 387 asked anxiously:【Miss, are you really going to a B-level field?

Gu Jiu chuckled. “We’re about to enter; isn’t it a little late to ask now? Besides, there’s no way to back out at this point.”

The Master System of the Multiverse Game never makes exceptions for players. It is as cold and precise as a meticulously programmed machine, operating solely based on its rules and protocols. Players can only adhere to these rules; rejecting them is not an option.

It’s said that even S-level players are not granted exceptions.

The metallic orb that was System 387 dimmed its red light, slumping weakly onto her shoulder. It muttered softly:

I’m worried about you! This is your first B-level game field…

Gu Jiu had been a player for less than six months.

In that short time, she had risen from a complete newbie to entering the B-level field, a pace that was astonishingly fast.

Although there had been other players who advanced as quickly as Gu Jiu, they were few and far between, practically one in a million. Such rapid progression often led to insufficient preparation, making players prone to accidents in the game world. In 387’s opinion, Gu Jiu could have spent a few more months honing her skills in the C-level field, gaining more experience with various tasks in the game world. Advancing to the B-level field then wouldn’t have been too late.

Even though 387 had great confidence in Gu Jiu, her decision to enter the B-level field filled it with unease.

Gu Jiu picked up the metallic orb, gently rubbing it to comfort it, and patted it. “Send me into the game world.”

The quiet classroom was filled with the soft sounds of writing and the flipping of pages.

Gu Jiu woke up from a deep sleep, finding herself lying on a desk. A stack of books in front of her blocked her figure, resembling the typical stance of a student dozing off during class.

She didn’t rush to sit up. Instead, she turned her head slightly to observe the classroom.

It was early afternoon, and bright sunlight streamed in from outside.

The classroom was clean and well-lit. The students were all engrossed in studying. On the blackboard at the front, chalk markings from the previous math lesson still remained—a set of math problems.

Above the blackboard was a clock. The time was 2:45 PM, leaving fifteen minutes until three o’clock.

Gu Jiu observed for a moment before slowly sitting upright.

The classroom had a total of 43 seats, but including herself, only 40 students were present. Three seats were empty.

Among the 40 students, three others were also sleeping on their desks like her. All three were male, tall and broad-shouldered, wearing the standard white-and-gold uniforms of Shengying High School. However, their physiques made them look more like adults than students.

These three were players.

Gu Jiu glanced down at herself. She was also wearing the white-and-gold uniform for female students: a fitted blouse and a knee-length skirt. The uniform’s tailored design ensured that, as long as a student wasn’t excessively overweight, they could wear it and look like they had stepped out of a school drama.

White symbolized purity and nobility. Those with good looks could wear it to exude an air of holiness.

This was the uniform of Shengying High School.

Shengying High was a prestigious academy. Its students were either wealthy or from noble backgrounds, with only a few exceptional cases of commoners admitted on merit-based scholarships due to their outstanding academic achievements.

Gu Jiu sat quietly for a while, observing the three players as they gradually woke up. They stared at the clock above the blackboard with solemn expressions. Without approaching them, she got up and left the classroom.

Seated in the last row near the back door, she exited silently, drawing no attention.

Once outside the classroom, she headed to the restroom at the end of the hallway.

Standing at the sink, she splashed cold water on her face. The icy sensation jolted her awake.

Just then, the restroom door swung open, and a group of giggling girls walked in.

Through the mirror in front of her, Gu Jiu noticed their appearance.

They had flashy, multicolored hair reminiscent of a rebellious “kawaii” aesthetic. Though dressed in the same uniform, their skirts were pulled so high they barely covered their hips, teasing glimpses of what lay underneath.

When they saw her washing her hands at the sink, malicious grins appeared on their faces as they approached.

Gu Jiu continued washing her hands leisurely, seemingly unbothered by their presence.

That was until one girl reached out to grab her hair. Gu Jiu tilted her head slightly, pivoted, and delivered a kick that sent the girl flying into the door with a loud crash.

The other girls froze in shock, then let out an enraged shout as they charged at her.

What does it look like when a group of 16- or 17-year-old girls fight?

Hair-pulling, face-scratching, arm-pinching, wielding mops as weapons—an unruly mess of flailing attacks with no technique to speak of. Gu Jiu barely had to lift a finger, dispatching each one with a single kick.

The flashy-haired girls were soon sprawled on the floor, trembling as they looked up at her in terror.

Gu Jiu stepped toward them, her gaze cold as she looked down from above. Despite her gentle expression, the girls felt a chill creeping up their spines.

“Clap! Clap! Clap!”

A slow applause broke the tense silence, drawing everyone’s attention to the doorway.

A seductive woman stood there, clapping. Dressed in the same white-and-gold uniform, her voluptuous and curvaceous figure gave the uniform a provocative flair, completely at odds with the school’s student image.

The defeated girls didn’t recognize her and were unsure if she had come to their rescue.

“Oh my, another fight?” the woman said mockingly. “You lot… Every time you come here to pick on her, do you ever stop to think? Do you really think the young lady is someone you can handle? And fighting in the restroom? So low-class. Can’t you at least bring a bit of noble school decorum to the act?”

The defeated girls stared blankly, confused. This was clearly the first time they had seen Gu Jiu, and their attempt to bully her was nothing more than a spur-of-the-moment decision. What was this about “every time”?

Gu Jiu ignored the girls, instead addressing the woman at the door. “Why are you here?”

“To watch you clean up these wannabe punks!”

The girls: “…”

Chai Yingying walked in, washing her hands as she casually asked, “What are you planning to do next?”

“I’m heading to the student dormitory to find Ah Ji,” Gu Jiu replied.

Chai Yingying sighed. “Lu Ji is so lucky. With her ‘frail and sickly’ character setup, she gets to lie down and rest in the dorm every time there’s a reincarnation. Unlike us, either slumped over in classrooms or sprawled in pavilions. So pitiful.”

Gu Jiu ignored her, washing her hands again before heading out.

Chai Yingying followed her, leaving behind the dazed and bewildered flashy-haired girls, who were still sitting on the floor questioning their life choices.

It was class time, and the campus was quiet.

The two walked through the teaching building, glancing into classrooms where students were studying earnestly. The sound of recitations echoed under the bright, spotless sky, sunlight spilling generously across the scene, evoking a nostalgic sense of school life.

Chai Yingying sighed wistfully. “I never thought I’d be back experiencing high school life at my age.”

“True,” Gu Jiu agreed initially, then added, “You definitely don’t look like a student. More like a weathered elder sister battling her way through the workforce—so much wear and tear on your face.”

“Hey! Who looks weathered here?” Chai Yingying retorted indignantly.

Gu Jiu didn’t reply, her attention instead shifting to a group of students with red armbands approaching to block their path.

Their expressions were stern. “What class are you two from? It’s class time. You should be back in your classroom!”

Chai Yingying smiled sweetly and said, “Oh my, is it your turn for patrol duty today? You Student Council members work so hard. Here, let me give you a little reward.”

With that, she reached out, grabbed the girl at the front, and planted a kiss on her cheek.

A bright red lipstick mark appeared on the girl’s fair and rosy face, making her blush furiously. Flustered, she retreated behind her companions, glaring at Chai Yingying in a mix of embarrassment and anger.

“You!” the other boys stammered, their faces turning red as well.

Chai Yingying, unfazed, let out a wicked laugh. Her bold and striking appearance radiated a confidence that overwhelmed the group. For these inexperienced students, her mature, provocative demeanor was far beyond what they could handle. One by one, they shrank back like frightened quails, unsure how to respond to the unexpected onslaught.

After thoroughly flustering the young students, Chai Yingying finally took Gu Jiu by the arm and led her away. “Alright, you all carry on. We’ll be going now.”

When they were some distance away, Chai Yingying chuckled to herself. “Kids during the day are just too adorable.”

Gu Jiu made no comment.

She gazed at the sunlit Shengying High School, its pristine and tranquil environment devoid of any darkness or corruption. It was indistinguishable from a normal world, making it almost easy to forget that this place was anything but ordinary.

Chai Yingying, hands clasped behind her head, asked, “Gu Jiu, any leads on the Reincarnator yet?”

“None,” Gu Jiu replied. “There are too many students and teachers on this campus. It’s impossible to tell where the Reincarnator might be.”

Chai Yingying sighed. “If we can’t find the Reincarnator, we’ll have to repeat the same experiences every day. It’s honestly getting annoying.”

This was their first B-level game field: Reincarnation Campus.

When they first entered the game world, they thought Reincarnation Campus would be like previous game fields—enclosed and self-contained. To their surprise, it wasn’t just open, but the students in the school were actual humans, not ghosts or NPCs.

Of course, in a school, there would inevitably be ghosts. However, these ghosts blended seamlessly among the crowd, making it difficult to identify them during the day.

The two made their way to the girls’ dormitory.

The dormitory supervisor was a stern-looking middle-aged woman. Her hair was neatly combed back, and her sharp, triangular eyes glimmered with a cold light. Many of the girls feared her and dared not disobey the rules she set.

By day, she was the dormitory supervisor. By night, she roamed the dormitory halls as a ghost.

As soon as the two entered the dormitory, they were stopped by the supervisor, who scolded them harshly.

“You’re skipping class to come back to the dorm? To enter, you need a leave slip signed by your homeroom teacher. Without one, you’re not allowed in.”

Gu Jiu replied, “I don’t have a leave slip.”

“Then you’re not going in! Stand here as punishment!”

Gu Jiu cast her a sidelong glance and pushed the iron door open, walking in.

“You two…!” the woman began, but her shouts faded into the distance as they ignored her and walked away.

Chai Yingying grumbled, “Isn’t this supposed to be a noble school? Noble schools are supposed to have more lenient rules. Otherwise, how would those pampered students survive? Why’d they hire such an unpleasant dorm supervisor? Just looking at her is revolting.”

“How do you know she was hired by the school?” Gu Jiu asked.

Chai Yingying paused, then nodded. “You’re right. That makes more sense. If the school was responsible, we wouldn’t even be here.”

On their first night in the game world, they had discovered that the dormitory supervisor was a ghost.

However, knowing didn’t mean much—they couldn’t do anything about her. This was Reincarnation School, after all. Even if they killed her, everything would reset the next day, and she would reappear.

Because of this, they had developed a significant grudge with the dormitory supervisor. Even though she had no memory of them breaking school rules at night when she was human during the day, she still made their lives difficult on purpose.

This Shengying High School was the setting for their current game field.

What made it unique was that only the players and ghosts were trapped in the reincarnation cycle. The regular human students were unaffected, continuing their daily routines—attending classes, studying hard, and living their lives as usual.

Every day at 2:45 PM, the reincarnation cycle began for players and ghosts, lasting until the students returned to class the next morning.

The game’s mission was to identify the Reincarnator.

Or, more accurately, to uncover the existence responsible for creating the reincarnation cycle.

The two climbed to the fifth floor, where they found Lu Ji waiting for them at the end of the hallway.
