South Island City, Cape Sanatorium.
In the surveillance room, a video is playing on the screen.
The dim and dull sky casts a very vague light in the video, and the gloomy waves are crashing against the coast, as if some monster is about to tear through the night and crawl ashore.
A giant exploration ship is slowly approaching the shore.
In the surveillance, the soldiers on the bow suddenly stop talking, as if they have seen something terrifying. Only two chaotic shouts can be heard:
“Back to the cabin!”
“Back to the ship’s cabin!”
But it was too slow. The next second, the entire exploration ship violently rocked, and then, as if cut in half by some terrifying monster from the seabed, the ship violently collapsed.
In the video, only sharp cries remain:
“Call for rescue!”
“Call for rescue!”
…
This video has been played more than twenty times, yet each viewing still brings a tremendous shock.
If you keep zooming in on the video screenshot, in the darkness you will see:
At 1 minutes and 20 seconds, a pale hand grasps the ship’s rail.
At 1 minutes and 32 seconds, there is a blurry shadow.
That so-called sea monster is merely a “human”.
Even in the year 3036, when humans now possess psychic powers and strong mental capabilities, it is still hard to imagine a being capable of tearing apart an armored ship with bare hands.
Is such an entity still human?
Silence fills the control room.
Finally, a man in a white lab coat with glasses breaks the silence:
“He has lost his humanity.”
“We should humanely destroy him.”
The man beside him nervously adds:
“The restricted area is too close to the city center; it’s too dangerous, we can’t keep Subject 001!”
As these words are spoken, a crew-cut man in black military uniform, alpha, scoffs, “It’s easy for you to just bump your gums together, but do you know how hard it is to kill him?”
The smell of gunpowder in the control room is unprecedentedly strong.
Since Subject 001 from the Cape Sanatorium’s restricted area awoke six months ago, this argument has continued for a whole month. Initially, everyone knew that Subject 001’s identity was mysterious and he only followed federal commands without any complaints.
But after discovering that everything had exceeded expectations and that the danger posed by Subject 001 had surpassed many people’s imaginations, the fear escalated dramatically, and disagreements began.
One side believes that Subject 001 should be humanely destroyed to minimize the threat, and they do not understand why the Federation would keep such a dangerous entity at the Cape Sanatorium; the other side insists on obeying the Federation’s orders but remains vague and unwilling to disclose Subject 001’s identity.
Listening to the arguing, the gray-haired Director Qiu looks out at the torrential rain through the window.
He recalls a rainy night ten years ago.
Back then, Director Qiu was merely a “doorman”.
That was just after he had been urgently transferred from the research institute, and it was also the first time he met Subject 001.
At that time, Director Qiu was surprised to discover that the person he was to guard was a pivotal figure in the Federation, the former supreme leader, Zhu Yan.
However, people generally referred to him as “the Founder (Yuanxun).”
The term “Yuanxun” actually means “first achievement,” referring to the pioneering efforts that enabled the federation to develop from widespread polluted areas. Gradually, people stopped calling him by his name, and “Yuanxun” became a synonym for that individual.
To this day, most people in the federation believe that over the past decade, the Founder has merely retreated behind the scenes, recuperating from old wounds at some base.
However, no one could have anticipated that a rainy night ten years ago would be the last time the Founder appeared.
That tall man, as soon as he appeared, was targeted by countless weapons.
In a corner, Director Qiu saw the Founder calmly removing his gloves.
Beneath the gloves, his veins were a pale blue, exuding a terrifying sense of power.
His fangs protruded, his silver hair slowly and eerily grew longer, and his beautiful gray-blue eyes gradually filled with darkness. With his movements, his waist and abdomen began to show beautiful, glowing scales.
A being somewhere between human and monster, eerie yet beautiful, as if belonging only in ancient, mysterious legends.
He calmly walked into the massive iron cage and issued his final order: “Go to Cape Prison.”
That rainy night ten years ago, a mysterious, huge steel cage was transported by helicopter, escorted by a special forces team of five hundred people, to Cape Prison.
No one could have imagined what kind of being was struggling inside that booming cage, sounding like a terrible monster trapped within.
The area spanning the entire reef sea north of South Island City was blockaded, becoming a “restricted area” with a prolonged no-fishing period set.
From 3025 to 3035, this gloomy sea area remained silent.
Cape Prison gradually became Cape Sanatorium, and the former gatekeeper became “Director Qiu.”
Until last month, a piercing alarm shattered the silence.
He had awakened.
A decade of psychic turmoil had transformed the once-legendary figure of the federation into a fearsome monster.
Yet, all of this was destined to remain top secret, the identity of 001, along with the history of Cape Sanatorium, buried and forgotten.
…
The argument continued.
“No matter what his past identity was or how great his contributions, given his current state, can he still be considered human?”
As this statement was made, a group of military-clad alphas across the room abruptly stood up, the leader’s veins bulging, nearly ready to draw their guns. Amidst the tension, Director Qiu spoke calmly, “Experts from Yan City will arrive shortly, let’s stop arguing.”
The meeting room fell silent.
In truth, everyone knew that no matter how fiercely they argued, it was futile; they could only follow the highest directives from the federation. It was just that under immense mental pressure, they needed an outlet for their emotions.
The crowd filed out one after another.
Now, only Director Qiu with his graying hair was left in the control room.
He sighed, just about to divert his gaze and leave, when the live monitor suddenly showed a change.
Director Qiu’s gaze froze.
For on the screen appeared a figure.
Despite the decade that had passed, Director Qiu recognized him at first glance.
His stature was much taller than that of an ordinary human, the drip-drip of rain falling, and the pale blue, semi-translucent fins behind his ears fluttering.
Even more astonishing was the beautifully eerie fish tail under the dripping white hair.
As if sensing something, he turned his head, his jawline smooth and striking.
But—
His eyes had no pupils.
Just a dark void.
From one look through the monitor, Director Qiu stood frozen, the words he had just thought chillingly resurfacing in his mind:
“Is he still even human?”
With a fizz, the signal cut out.
The control room was silent for a second, then a shrill air raid alarm blared!
Others may not know, but Director Qiu did—the establishment of the restricted area and even the entire existence of the Cape Sanatorium were not to protect the individual known as 001 inside, but to protect everyone outside!
He must not be allowed to come out!
“Quick! Evacuate all areas near the restricted zone immediately!”
“Send the experts dispatched from Yan City right away! Make sure to calm 001 down!”
…
…
As the heavy spring rain poured, the emergency department of Cape Sanatorium lit up.
Entering the 30th century, psychic powers and spiritual entities were developed, exploring new realms of human potential. But with these advancements came diseases.
Those with stronger psychic powers faced a higher possibility of psychic outbreaks; once an outbreak reached a certain level, individuals would gradually become feral, often facing death within just a decade.
And particularly, the elite backbone of a country, especially soldiers at the front lines of contaminated zones, were the most susceptible to psychic outbreaks, leading to the emergence of therapists and sanitariums.
The Cape Sanatorium treats the most dangerous and extreme group of maniacs in the entire Federation.
At this moment, the alpha therapists in the emergency department were chatting in the pantry. They all looked through the glass window at a graceful figure.
Most alphas are quite stern-looking, but Shu Tang is an exception. Her eyes are cat-like, round and moist, with slightly upturned corners. Her cheeks are tinged with the pink of early spring branches, as beautiful as a begonia branch with dewdrops.
—What can I say, she looks very much like an omega.
However, in reality, not only is Shu Tang an alpha, but she also leads other single alphas with her SSS-grade mental strength and has been matched with an excellent omega by the Federation.
This truly makes others envious.
Some alphas couldn’t help feeling sour, “With her looks, she doesn’t seem like she’d be favored by little omegas, right?”
“And with such a disparity in family background, even her family is reaching too high.”
“However, I heard her fiancé is not very healthy, perhaps he chose her because he’s too frail?”
…
Shu Tang did not hear these comments, only noticing that the group of alphas in the emergency department were watching her.
Holding her white coat pocket, she walked through the crowd towards the outside of the emergency department, her delicate profile setting her apart from the other alphas like a begonia flower amidst a forest of steel.
Begonia flower: Why are they staring at me? This morning I just snatched two extra chicken legs in the cafeteria. If anyone is to blame, shouldn’t it be these tall alphas who are too tall to slip under someone’s arm to snatch food?
This is Shu Tang’s twentieth year since her transmigration, and she has long been accustomed to the strange looks from those around her.
When she first transmigrated, Shu Tang didn’t know which type she was in the ABO dynamics—
Since it is said that differentiation happens at age 16.
In the ABO world, every child is like opening a mystery box.
However, whether A or O, some signs show up in childhood.
Little Os are usually quiet, enjoying painting and reading; little As like to fight each other; Betas are even easier to distinguish—if you can’t remember the kid’s name, they’re probably a beta.
From birth, Shu Tang did not fit in with the alpha children; she ate and slept, basked in the sunlight upon waking, and even her pacifier-sucking looked refined among the rough giant alphas, not fighting with her siblings or jumping around.
Her family spoke loudly to her, afraid they might scare her off.
After starting kindergarten, she neither fought with her classmates nor pulled their hair, contrasting sharply with the troublesome alphas.
Especially as she grew older, her round face became more beautiful, making it easier to determine her gender.
The two kids next door are both in the reserve forces; each year they fight over who will marry her when they grow up.
Every time Shu Tang passes by them on her way home from school, she watches with great excitement: Fight! Fight!
Anyway, whether it’s teachers, parents, or passersby, everyone thinks she will be a sweet little omega in the future.
It’s said that alphas are extremely strong in combat and also highly aggressive with firm determination;
It’s said that omegas are sensitive and delicate, extremely weak in combat, but possess highly developed artistic sensibilities;
However, Shu Tang has always felt that she should be a beta, which makes up 80% of the population, because she is neither aggressive nor sensitive and loves peace. She doesn’t have any special physical attributes, appearing just like an ordinary beta.
That is until the year she turned sixteen, when Shu Tang was identified as an alpha with SSS-level psychic strength.
In short, a supremely powerful alpha.
Shu Tang’s mother, a typical omega, fainted from shock upon hearing that Shu Tang had suddenly become an alpha.
